Who should look closer?

Start with Gusto when your buying brief begins with pay runs, employee onboarding and the handoff between them. It offers payroll alongside HR tools, but the label “all in one” should never replace a check of your exact requirements.

Bring payroll, HR and finance into the same demo. Ask each person to follow the task they will own, including the exception that usually causes the most work.

Three workflows to walk through

  1. Add a new team member

Follow the journey from offer to the first pay run. Confirm which onboarding tasks sit in your chosen plan and who checks that the record is complete.

  2. Prepare and approve payroll

Ask how time, changes and approvals arrive in the pay run. Use an ordinary month and a month with an unusual adjustment.

  3. Close the reporting loop

Ask finance to name the report it needs. Check the fields, access permissions and export before treating reporting as solved.

The fit and the questions

Reasons to consider it

  • Payroll and HR are part of the same product conversation.
  • Published plan fees help you model a starting budget.
  • HR offerings include hiring and onboarding workflows.

Questions to resolve

  • Which features require a different plan or an extra charge?
  • Does your workforce fit the supported payroll setup?
  • Who owns migration and checks the first live pay run?

Build the budget around your actual team

Compare the base fee, the charge per person and any additional services. A lower starting plan only saves money if it covers the workflow you need.
